What Nellie said, but for me it was reading it in the Watchtower study article on a Sunday morning rather than at an assembly. I felt like the rug had definitely been pulled out from under my feet and began to wonder, "if they were wrong on this, what else have they got wrong...". It's what got me questioning and independently researching outside of the WT box.

I took the '1914 Generation' prophecy seriously, did you? Do you even remember it?!
by nicolaou ini was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

I always marvel at the nonsensical reasoning of trinitarians who try and convince themselves that Jesus is the Father/Jehovah

Yes. I once had a bad case of the squidgees after drinking a Bloody Mary the night before, so after spending 15 mins on the toilet I decided to just go home.

Our thoughts go with you and do not let the harsh way the message was conveyed upset you even more.

The emphasis is on Jesus, even in the New World Translation
by JimmyPage inthis was a point from "in search of christian freedom" that i really appreciated.
in the new world translation the name "jesus" appears in the christian greek scriptures 912 times.
compare that to "jehovah" which appears (or has been inserted) 237 times.

"I think it is entirely plausible that NT fragments will be discovered one day with the divine name."
But in the meantime don't we have to treat this on the evidence we have available? Surely if this was so important an issue to God and 2 Tim 3:16 is to be trusted then He would have ensured such NT fragments were discovered long before now.
I think the explanation is that Jehovah only intended the tetragrammaton to be his personal name for his covenant people, the Israelites. It was his OT name, for his OT people. When that special relationship ended, God intended use of the tetragrammaton to fade away. From Jesus onward he was no longer just the God of the Jews, for whom alone the tetragrammaton had such an intimate application; He was to now be the God of the whole world. And he was not just to be a God to Christians but now their "Father", with them to be his "sons"; this kind of familial relationship between God and humans never really existed between YHWH and the Israelites as such. That is why Jesus mostly addresses God as "Father". And the Father loves the Son so much and rewarded him so greatly that he effectively gave the Son his "name". That's why Acts 4:12 and Philippians 2:9 say what they do. (Unfortunately trinitarians confuse this with identity by blasphemously claiming that YHWH is Jesus). Acts 4:12 and Phil 2:9 explain why some passages in the OT that are speaking of YHWH are applied to Jesus in the NT.

Poppers, although JW's don't emphasis Jesus enough compared to the emphasis on him in the NT, JW's do not technically deny Jesus' divinity (depending how we interpret that word); they just deny his divinity in the trinitarian sense. Their publications state he is a divine God/being.
And it's a bit harsh to say they "deny" Jesus. Depends what you mean by "deny" I suppose. I think it's fairer to say they diminish or water-down his role and importance in salvation by their doctrines that Christ's mediatorship and the new covenant only apply to the 144k.

For Those On The Fence About Blood
by TD infor any who think that the jw's are correct in teaching that the bible forbids transfusion medicine;.
for any who have doubts about the teaching but are still unsure if the jw's are right or not;.
for any who suspect that the jw's are probably wrong, but still think there might be some tiny kernal of truth at the heart of the teaching;.

At a minimum it should be a conscience matter only for fully informed, baptised adult (or mature youth) JW's. Whatever interpretation you take, it should never affect the lives of young children or babies.

Good thread. Ray Franz's books opened my eyes too to this, as well as various websites. Now I wonder why I never saw it more clearly when I was a JW.

ANNOINTED SOCIAL CLUB.........
by iknowall558 ini posted a reply on thread "are the governing body even supposed to go to the memorial" by maryacclaim..... it got me wondering if any of the "annointed" actually know each other.
i mean this is the most 'exlusive and unique' group of people living on this earth according to jws...is it not?
do they actually have a friendship with any of their fellow kings/ priests/ judges - someone to have coffee with and discuss their future job and all things heavenly?

Its definitely in the Society's interests of high control that the 'anointed' do not socialise together. Keep them isolated and guilty about taking the emblems.
